Recognizing but not harming. Borderline B‐cell lymphoid proliferations

چکیده

In the last years several borderline B-cell lymphoid proliferations have been recognized that lie at interface between benign and malignant. These lesions can be divided in two groups; those considered precursor of well malignancies group indolent lymphomas with limited potential for progression. Precursor are monoclonal share many genetic features their malignant counterpart. The first lesion was gammopathy undetermined significance. Thereafter, widespread use immunohistochemistry, fluorescence-activated cell sorting analysis molecular techniques samples led to recognition other such as lymphocytosis, situ follicular neoplasia mantle neoplasia. second disorders comprises without a counterpart among currently lymphoma entities; these include pediatric-type lymphoma, pediatric nodal marginal zone duodenal-type lymphoma. Despite clonal nature, conservative treatment has shown sufficient most cases. diagnostic criteria precursor/indolent proliferations, recent advances understanding progression lymphomagenesis current recommendations will discussed. order avoid unnecessary potentially harmful therapy, need diagnosed correctly.

Viral-associated lymphoid proliferations.

The histological spectrum of viral-associated lymphoid proliferations is quite broad, ranging from reactive lymphadenitis to atypical proliferations mimicking classical Hodgkin lymphoma or non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Virally associated reactive lesions can appear quite alarming on histological examination, because of direct (cytopathic) and indirect viral-induced changes eliciting a polymorphic cellu...

Lymphoid proliferations in the orbit: malignant or benign?

Clinical, pathological, and immunological analysis of 20 patients with ocular adnexal lymphoid disease has demonstrated several parameters which are useful for distinguishing malignant from benign lesions. Patients in the fourth or fifth decade of life presenting with an acute history of pain, oedema, epiphora, double vision, and ptosis, with a mass localised in the lacrimal gland area, are mor...

Time perception, impulsivity, emotionality, and personality in self-harming borderline personality disorder patients.

To investigate how time perception may contribute to the symptoms of self-harming Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) patients, 19 self-harming BPD inpatients and 39 normal controls were given measures of time perception, impulsivity, personality, emotion, and BPD characteristics. A test sensitive to orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) function ("Frontal" Behavior Questionnaire) was also administered,...

Consciousness, not only intentionality, yields self-harming behavior

As pointed out by Searle (1987), subjectivity and intentionality have always been defined as basic characteristics of consciousness. Both of them are also needed in order to determine whether a person is a (self-)murderer or not: a legal report of the consciousness state should verify whether at that particular moment a person was subjectively and intentionally able to decide on his/her own act...
